Thanks to everyone who came out to the pig roast fundraiser. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. We covered our costs and added quite a bit to the campaign’s bank account which will help get my message out to the primary voters in the next three weeks. We have our second mailing in the works which will hopefully get sent out in two weeks — the fund-raiser take will enable us to both print and pay for postage. We’re running a shoe string operation (of course) so we get good mileage from even the smallest donation amounts.
We had a good turn out, even better than expected. The pig came from a farm right here in Mason. All of the beer and wine was from Michigan (we were hoping to have beer from the new brewery in Mason, BAD Brewing, but they are still awaiting state permitting approval so were not able to supply us this time). People brought a variety of different dishes to contribute which made for a great variety of flavors. Everyone really made the event a success. (We also heard a couple of pleasantly surprised comments about our real plates, napkins, silverware, cups. I’m rather inflexible about not wasting money and resources on disposable stuff.)
The band, the Whiskey Pickers, was great. I’m trying to post a video of one of the songs they did, Union Maid, a Woodie Guthrie song. I requested that they play this song for our Labor friends. They did a great job. You should be able to view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyhxEuDbODw&feature=youtu.be

It was a great time!! Awesome food and drinks, great company, excellent music, and super fun kids to play with!!
